About Suzanne
Suzanne Alcock has more than 20 years of experience helping clients streamline cashflow by unlocking value across the capital asset ownership lifecycle, enhancing tax efficiency through strategic capital allowances optimisation and managing associated risks. Suzanne’s clients include FTSE 100, multinational corporations (‘MNCs’), private companies and investment funds consisting of corporate occupiers and investors operating in a wide range of sectors, including real estate, energy, infrastructure, hospitality and retail.
Suzanne’s dual qualifications as a chartered quantity surveyor and a chartered tax advisor contribute to her understanding of construction technology, tax technical issues and case law impacting a client’s tax depreciation position. She teams with all stakeholders, from the client’s finance, project and construction teams to tax authorities.
Suzanne advises on capital allowances and land remediation relief arising on the acquisition, ownership and disposal of capital assets. This comprises assumptions for financial modelling, managing risks associated with entitlement to relief, strategic approach to optimising and accelerating capital allowances tax relief, and advising on capital allowances implications arising on share and asset transactions and structuring.
Suzanne co-leads FTI Consulting’s ESG Tax Services team and is a co-developer of the Tax Sustainability Index (‘TSi’), which is designed to help organisations understand their starting position and build a tailored plan of focus on their journey towards tax sustainability. Of the five pillars that the TSi focuses on, Suzanne leads on Stakeholder Engagement, analysing the influence of tax on a wide variety of stakeholders ultimately impacting the commerciality of the business. Her work centres on the risks and rewards to business of earning trust, how to build trust through engaging in a transparent way and the accountability of the business to deliver on its objectives for tax strategy, policy and reporting. Additionally, she is a regular speaker at ESG and taxation conferences.
Suzanne holds a B.Sc. with honors in commercial management and quantity surveying from the University of Manchester. She is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor (‘MRICS’) and a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. In addition, Suzanne is a Chartered Tax Advisor (‘CTA’) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
Relevant Experience:- Provided capital allowances advisory services to a global real estate asset management firm optimising tax relief to reduce distributable income and improve cashflow through real-time quarterly and annual capital expenditures (‘CAPEX’) analysis and property disposal advice
- Identified additional tax relief associated with historic expenditure on capital assets by a multinational manufacturing group; applied a strategic approach to optimising tax relief, in conjunction with advice on the tax treatment of an impairment receipt, to generate a cash repayment from the tax authorities resulting in improved cash flow
