About Tory
Tory Newmyer is a Managing Director within the Strategic Communications segment at FTI Consulting. Mr. Newmyer helps clients protect corporate reputation and effectively manage crises communications and media relations through integrated public affairs campaigns. He is based in Washington D.C.
Mr. Newmyer has extensive expertise in financial communications, issues management and public policy. He helps organizations navigate complex regulatory and public environments with clarity and confidence.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Newmyer worked as a Senior Director for Narrative Strategies, where he led public affairs campaigns, media relations and crisis response initiatives for clients in the financial services sector and beyond. In this role, he directed multidisciplinary teams to develop and execute integrated communications strategies that shaped public perception and strengthened corporate reputation. In addition, he served as a firm-wide resource on earned media and executive messaging, supporting business development and client engagements through workshops focused on storytelling and strategic communications.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Newmyer worked as a journalist for The Washington Post, where he led coverage of financial policy from Capitol Hill to the Federal Reserve. His reporting offered in-depth analyses of markets, trade and corporate governance, including coverage of the rise and collapse of the cryptocurrency industry and the FTX scandal. He also anchored the Finance 202 newsletter, a daily briefing that reached more than 55,000 subscribers and was widely read among economic policymakers. He is recognized for his insights into the evolving intersection of business and government, as well as for his dedication to advancing clear, impactful communications across corporate and public sectors.
Mr. Newmyer earned a B.A. in American History from Columbia University.
