How do you jump-start operations at a struggling power plant?

A $1.1 billion concentrated solar power (“CSP”) plant encountered operations issues that put a long-term U.S. Department of Energy contract at risk and threatened revenues. The client engaged FTI Consulting to assume all management roles, conduct a project status review and turn the plant around.

The plant successfully tracked and fulfilled the U.S. Department of Energy power purchase agreement (“PPA”) requirements, including ongoing activities requirements.

Our Role

Applying turnaround and operations experience to get a plant back on track

The FTI Consulting team took an active, on-site role in leadership, taking on interim CEO, CFO, and COO roles, establishing clear communications and governance and setting up segregation of duties.
The team set up a project management office and completed punch list items that had been dragging on for more than a year in only three months, bringing the plant online to meet its PPA requirements.
The team developed the process and procedures for the operations and maintenance (“O&M”) phase.

Finding $15.3 Billion Lost in Madoff’s Ponzi Scheme

In December 2008, Bernie Madoff admitted that the investment advisory business within his firm was a Ponzi scheme, setting off his arrest and a chain reaction of events throughout the financial services world and philanthropic communities. A Trustee under the Securities Investor Protection Act was appointed to liquidate Madoff’s firm and to recover the proceeds from his Ponzi scheme. FTI Consulting experts were engaged by Irving Picard, the Trustee, and BakerHostetler, the Trustee’s counsel.
