Brian Stuart is a Senior Managing Director in FTI Consulting’s Technology segment based in the London office. Brian works with clients by using his international expertise and significant experience in methodologies and technology solutions, to help them tackle issues such as AML, banking insolvency, bribery and corruption, sanctions breaches, cyber breach investigations and competition abuses.
Brian has specialized in working with multi-national organisations to set up and effectively manage large cross-border e-discovery exercises across a number jurisdictions including the UK, Middle East and USA.
During his 25 year career he has helped organisations embed the right systems, processes, people and culture to fight fraud, conduct themselves with integrity and stay compliant with the ever-increasingly complex regulations.
Brian's career has taken him through technology consulting, law firm litigation support consulting and onto e-discovery service delivery at EY.
Having worked on a number of multi-jurisdictional cases, Brian has a unique understanding of the challenges faced by both law firms and their clients and understands the need for well engineered processes to ensure successful outcomes.
Brian recently led an engagement with a financial services client, helping a UK bank respond to DOJ questions relating to financial transactions with Sudanese entities in breach of OFAC regulations. Using a combined team of e-discovery and Data Analytics professionals we were able to prove a concerted and long-term effort by the bank to eliminate non-compliant trading which reduced the fine levied on the bank.
Brian’s areas of expertise include:
- Development of effective and defensible ESI collection plans.
- Application of predictive coding and advance data analytics techniques across both structured and unstructured content.
- Production of data in response to regulatory inquiries.
- Application of sophisticated estimation techniques to accurately scope e-discovery and document review exercises.
Brian has spoken at a number of conferences on emerging themes in the field of e-discovery, the use of technology in compliance, fraud investigations and on cross-border e-discovery.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Brian was the EMEIA - COO in EY’s e-discovery business. Brian coordinated operations and growth across 19 EMEIA country practices, with 600 professionals delivering an annual 20% growth rate over the last eight years.
