Dawna Wright is a Senior Managing Director and Leader of the Australian Forensic Accounting and Advisory Services practice of FTI Consulting. She is based in Melbourne, Australia.
Ms. Wright began her career as an auditor with Deloitte in Canada, where she first qualified as a Chartered Accountant before going on secondment to Paris. She began her specialisation in forensic accounting when she moved to New York, where she lived for three years before moving to Australia in 2001. Ms. Wright has over 20 years of experience in auditing and forensic accounting, including several years as a Partner leading the Victorian Forensic practice at Deloitte, and five years as a Forensic partner at an independent boutique advisory firm.
Ms. Wright has led a wide range of matters as an independent expert witness, a consulting expert and an expert determiner. Her experience includes pre-litigation dispute consulting, expert testimony, class action litigation, corporate investigations, financial statement restatements, post-acquisition disputes and anti-bribery and corruption reviews.
Ms. Wright has provided expert testimony in the Federal Court of Australia, the Supreme Court of Victoria, the Supreme Court of Queensland, the Supreme Court of New South Wales, the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, as well as assistance through negotiations, mediations and arbitrations.
Ms. Wright has been involved in many high profile and complex matters such as the Black Saturday bushfires class action, the Timbercorp class action, Pan Pharmaceuticals’ recall/litigation and the Toll/Patrick dispute. She has acted for many top listed companies such as Amcor, Asahi, Coles, Crown, Fosters, Telstra and Woolworths, and on matters involving regulators such as the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and the Australia Taxation Office.
Ms. Wright holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) degree from the University of Manitoba, is a Chartered Accountant (including a Business Valuation Specialist) and a Certified Fraud Examiner.
She has served as a Director on several not-for-profit Boards, including as Chair of Audit & Risk Committees. Currently she is the Chair of the National Forensic Accounting Committee of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
Ms. Wright specialises in the interpretation of complex data and financial information for non-financial clients, particularly lawyers and Boards of Directors. Clients value her accessibility and her hands-on approach.
