James Franks is a Senior Managing Director in the Business Transformation practice, specializing in operations and revenue growth, and leads the Energy industry practice. He has over 25 years of experience providing operational, financial and business process transformation services to global energy companies. He has deep industry experience in oil and gas and utilities and has worked extensively in the North American, European and Middle Eastern markets.
Mr. Franks’ specific areas of expertise include capital budgeting procure-to-pay, materials and production planning, logistics operations, distribution operations, demand management, strategic sourcing, supplier management and digital procurement/supply chain. He had served in many interim management positions for companies, including Chief Administrative Officer, Chief Procurement Officer and Chief of Supply Chain.
Select examples of Mr. Franks’ experience includes serving as the Senior Advisor to the Chief Operations Officer of a global integrated oil company in the deployment of digital functionality and new operations using digital technologies and outsourced processes, resulting in a 20% crew operational efficiency improvement and around 14% of recurring actual annual savings on $3.2 billion in operational spend. He also served as Chief Procurement Officer for a 70-person regional integrated utility with $450 million of total spend, where he delivered year-over-year operational improvements on fulfillment and procure-to-pay delivery times of over 15 percent.
Additionally, Mr. Franks led the design and implementation of North American field operations and material management strategy for a North American exploration company. The program included digital integration of key third parties, third party integration into operations inclusive of handhelds, capital management model, integrating supply chain and supplier operations. He also led the strategy and design of the migration of a fabrication facility and its staff from one Middle Eastern country into another, with considerations including the impact of local content laws, the construction of new facilities and the impact assessment of closing.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Franks was a Principal at EY as the Americas Oil & Gas Lead. Before that, he was a Partner at Accenture.
Mr. Franks holds a B.S. in engineering sciences from the United States Air Force Academy and an M.B.A. in Operations from the Southern Methodist University. He is a Certified Supply Chain Professional and is a member of the Association for Supply Chain Management and the Institute of Supply Management.
