Jigar Thakkar is a Managing Director in the Health Solutions segment. He specializes in Pharmacy services and solutions. Mr. Thakkar’s experience in Pharmacy includes strategic planning, design, operations, compliance, and improvement of an organization’s medication management system. He has experience in implementing best practice pharmacy models and has expertise in pharmacy supply chain management, pharmacy productivity, and pharmacy related regulatory and accreditation compliance such as the 340B Drug Pricing Program.
Mr. Thakkar has a broad range of pharmacy experience in addition to the hospital segment that includes retail, specialty, infusion, hematology/oncology, long-term care, capital equity-directed projects of due diligence of mergers and acquisitions of large retail and specialty pharmacy chains. Mr. Thakkar has also completed several projects of large health system mergers as they relate to pharmacy integration and implementation of resulting synergies.
Additionally, some of Mr. Thakkar’s experiences include: optimization of 340B pricing strategy and contracts for a health system resulting in over $5M in realized savings; identification and implementation of cost savings of over $4 million in a Critical Access Hospital system; and assisting organizations with independent 340B audits and Corrective Action Plans following HRSA audits. Mr. Thakkar has also helped health systems navigate compliance, self-reporting, and repayments to manufacturers as a result of 340B non-compliance.
Previously, Mr. Thakkar established a retail pharmacy within a medical group that led to over $30 million in revenues per year for the group, as well as decreased the turn-around time for specialty pharmacy treatment starts for the group’s hematology/oncology patients. Most recently, he worked on identifying a specialty pharmacy opportunity in an organization that was greater than $230M in specialty pharmacy revenue for large health system that is also qualified for 340B.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Thakkar worked in the Performance Improvement segment within Huron Consulting Group’s Healthcare practice. Prior to Huron, Mr. Thakkar was the Regional Director of Pharmacy at Presence Health. He has extensive experience in leading hospital inpatient pharmacy departments inclusive of clinical, operational, as well as pharmacy business development. With prior training completed at EPIC Systems headquarters, Mr. Thakkar has a deep understanding of leveraging Information Technology and the EMR system to hardwire clinical pharmacy initiatives.
Mr. Thakkar holds a PharmD from Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Pharmacy and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He is a Registered Pharmacist and a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacy, Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacy, and American College of Healthcare Executives. Mr. Thakkar also serves as an advisory board member at Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Pharmacy and Roosevelt University’s College of Pharmacy. He frequently lectures on pharmacy topics in Colleges of Pharmacy.
