John Hudson is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting. He is a member of the Forensic and Litigation Consulting practice and is based in London. John is a senior forensic accountant with over 16 years of experience of fraud investigations, financial investigations, forensic accounting, litigation and dispute advisory work.

John works predominantly in disputes and contentious matters, and on accounting and regulatory investigations. His professional experience includes:

  • Acting on behalf of a group of insurance companies to critically assess accounting disclosures and supporting documentation relating to a potential claim under a disputed SPA.  Drafting reports for consideration of the clients and their legal representatives, for their use in negotiations with the insured and in anticipation of any potential dispute resolution process.
  • Acting on behalf of two private equity purchasers in relation to a dispute with the vendors over a recently acquired telemetric business. Critically analysing accounting records and other documentation to evaluate allegations of fraud and misrepresentation in relation to the SPA. Specifically concerns were raised in relation to revenue recognition policies.
  • Acting on behalf of a telecommunications company to investigate whistleblower allegations relating to the manipulation of accounts by senior management. The specific focus was on accounting for costs and the recording of accruals within the monthly management accounts.
  • Acting on behalf of an international construction company in verifying its revenues, costs and profits relating to long running construction projects connected with corruption payments made to foreign Government officials.  Working with the company’s finance team to review the company’s budgets, forecasts, and costing records to determine the appropriate revenue and costs to be included in a submission to the Serious Fraud Office (“SFO”) on behalf of the company.
  • Acting on behalf of a private equity house that had concerns that they were providing financial support to an Italian entity that was potentially trading in breach of US and EU sanctions regulation. 
  • Acting on behalf of a Central Bank in East Africa to investigate allegations of fraudulent activity resulting in the collapse of a mid-tier bank. Performing a review and analysis of the bank’s underlying accounting and banking records. Liaising with legal representatives and the police in relation to civil and criminal proceedings arising from the investigation.
  • Leading a team to assist a UK subsidiary of a US listed company restate its financial statements following an investigation by the US Securities Exchange Commission.  The work involved a review of the financial records of the company over a four year period.
  • Acting on behalf of private investors to analyse the cash spend of a large multi-national telecommunication organisation.
  • Leading a team carrying out investigations into alleged fraud, corruption and breaches of UN Sanctions on behalf of the SFO. His work has required him to carry out interviews under caution, and to use the compulsory powers attributed to the SFO under s.2 Criminal Justice Act 1987.
  • Acting on behalf of the accountancy regulator in its investigation into the conduct of members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (“ICAEW”) in relation to their performance of an audit of a bank. 
  • Leading a team in the preparation of an expert report, assessing a claim for loss of profits arising from an intellectual property dispute relating to a product used in scientific research. Analysing the sales data extracted from the SAP accounting system of two multi-national groups of companies, and reviewing the claimants’ financial information and making a critique as to their evaluation of damages.
  • Leading a team to produce an expert report relating to the assessment of a claim for lost profits arising from an alleged breach of a worldwide licensing agreement. Reviewing the financial information of the claimant, an analysis of its product costings, and a review of the contractual obligations under the licensing agreement.
