Ken Rugeti is a Senior Managing Director in the Forensic & Litigation Consulting practice at FTI Consulting. He has more than 20 years of experience in forensic accounting, damages analysis and valuation. He is known for his objective analysis, attention to detail and comfort on the witness stand, where he views his role as an educator of judges, arbitrators and juries tasked with deciding financial issues that have become the center of a controversy.
Mr. Rugeti's assignments have ranged from small mediated matters to multi-billion dollar litigation for businesses in virtually all major industries. While his work most often assists parties in reaching settlement, Mr. Rugeti has testified as an expert witness on more than 70 occasions in U.S. District and Bankruptcy Courts, California State Court, arbitration and deposition.
In addition to serving as a consultant or expert witness for a particular party to a dispute, Mr. Rugeti frequently serves as a joint expert, either informally or under Court-appointment as an Expert or Referee. His experience serving as the Court’s expert has been instrumental in shaping his philosophy about the role of an expert and the approaches he takes in his assignments.
Mr. Rugeti has a broad base of forensic accounting experience that includes the reconstruction of financial data for purposes of determining income, analysis of issues related to financial contract compliance and investigation of fraud. In this capacity, he has worked for judicial officers, boards of directors, business owners, public and private companies, trustees and trust beneficiaries.
Regarding damages analysis, Mr. Rugeti has addressed a wide variety of claims, including those stemming from alleged intellectual property infringement, misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of contract, false advertising, business interruption, wrongful termination, personal injury and wrongful death.
Mr. Rugeti has analyzed the value of businesses, ownership interests, derivatives, stock-based compensation, intangible assets and income streams. He is knowledgeable not only in the methods of valuation, but in the proper application of these methods to matters such as business acquisitions, shareholder and partner disputes, financial reporting and marital dissolution.
Mr. Rugeti is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountant’s (AICPA) Forensic and Litigation Services Committee and chairs the AICPA’s COVID-19 Damages Task Force. He currently serves on the Steering Committee for the California Society of Certified Public Accountant’s (CalCPA) Forensic Services Section and previously served as the Chair of CalCPA’s Economic Damages Section. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and is Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) by the AICPA.
