Nareg Sagherian develops and executes client engagements related to Mergers & Acquisitions, IPOs, shareholder activism, among other issue and event-based work. He has expertise in investor relations, IPO and capital raising communications, valuation analysis, reputation management, stakeholder engagement, crisis communications, and coalition building.
Previously Mr. Sagherian was Managing Director of Investor Relations and Programming at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO), a global trade association representing the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. In this capacity, he was the primary liaison between BIO, its 1,300+ member companies, and third-party stakeholders, such as investors (over $500 billion in capital represented), academic institutions, and government organizations. He managed all outreach to and engagement with this stakeholder community on behalf of BIO, continually working to find alignment and build partnership among these organizations to advance the objectives of the trade association and its members.
Mr. Sagherian came to BIO after having spent over three years as Chief Commercialization Strategist, Senior Investment Officer, and Senior Policy Advisor within the Office of Investment and Innovation at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). He impacted three flagship programs at the SBA: the $40 billion Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) programs, the $70 billion Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) program, and the $12 million Growth Accelerator Fund Competition program which he helped establish in 2014.
Mr. Sagherian also served as an International Economist within the Office of International Affairs at the United States Department of the Treasury, analyzing economic, development, financial, trade, investment, and energy and environment issues related to Europe and Eurasia. Examples comprise debt sustainability modeling for the Bulgarian banking crisis, including a $4 billion recovery package.
Prior to Mr. Sagherian's transition to the public sector, he was Director of Finance for Barbaricum, a boutique consulting firm in Washington, DC. Before that opportunity, he worked as a Senior Consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton supporting the Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E) as well as the Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate – Chemical and Biological Division.
A passionate academic, Mr. Sagherian is currently an M.B.A. candidate at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business. He completed a graduated diploma in Legislative Studies from the Government Affairs Institute at Georgetown University. He is also a recent graduate of the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School with a Master of Science in Corporate Finance and a Graduate Diploma in Investments. He previously graduated from the Wayne State University School of Medicine with a Master of Science in Medical Sciences and the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology & Cognitive Science, and a Bachelor of Arts in Near Eastern Studies.
