Peter Gray is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in New York. He is a member of the Global Mining Advisory Practice (“GMAP”) and FTI Capital Advisors, FTI Consulting’s investment banking subsidiary. Mr. Gray’s international mining finance career spans in excess of 29 years in project finance, investment banking, merchant banking and mergers and acquisitions.
Mr. Gray has directed numerous advisory and finance assignments in major mining, forestry and energy projects globally. His experience in corporate finance encompasses merger and acquisitions advisory, project debt advisory, balance sheet optimization and debt restructuring.
A representative list of Mr. Gray’s mining engagements includes acting as mandated lead arranger or advisor on such notable projects as Antamina (Peru), Veladero Gold (Argentina) Escondida (Chile), Collahuasi (Chile) , Grasberg (Indonesia), Oyu Tolgoi (Mongolia) and Raz Al Zaswr (Saudi Arabia) .
In particular, Mr. Gray was the mandated advisor for Bechtel and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the design, build and development of the Ras Al Zawr and Jubail industrial cities (industrial minerals, phosphate, petrochemicals). Mr. Gray also was the mandated advisor for Anglo American (Copebras) Phosphate in Brazil, where he conducted a strategic assessment, logistics chain and optimization study. In addition, Mr. Gray was the sell-side advisor and mandated advisor in the $175 million sale of Concept Mining & Ridge land to Arcelor Mittal. This transaction was awarded “Deal of the Year” by M&A Magazine.
In addition, Mr. Gray has extensive experience in industrials, oilfield services, oil and gas, alternative energy, steel, aerospace and defense and forestry, paper and pulp.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Gray held numerous leadership positions across the mining industry, most recently serving as Head of Energy, Mining and Natural Resources at KPMG Corporate Finance LLC. Before that, Mr. Gray was a Director and Head of Natural Resources, New York at ANZ Investment Bank where he was involved in numerous structured and project financings in mining and metals and oil and gas. Prior to ANZ Investment Bank, he held positions in project and corporate finance in Australia, Singapore and New York with Australia and New Zealand Banking Group and National Australia Bank Limited.
Mr. Gray holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and Industrial Relations from the University of Wollongong and a post-graduate degree in Finance and International Banking from Monash University. He holds Series 7, Series 24, Series 63 and Series 79 investment banking licenses.
