Toni Vanderlaan is a Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in Toronto. She is a member of the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment.

Ms. Vanderlaan has more than 16 years of experience as an advisor to companies, boards of directors, lending institutions and private equity funds. Her work includes assisting stakeholders of financially troubled companies, conducting business and lending due diligence reviews, developing and implementing reorganization strategies both in out-of-court restructurings and formal insolvency proceedings and managing divestiture processes on behalf of financially distressed organizations.

Ms. Vanderlaan has experience across a broad range of industries, including: oil and gas exploration and production; oilfield services; aircraft maintenance repair and overhaul; mining, metal production and extrusion; quick service restaurants; biopharmaceuticals; media; forestry; travel and tourism; manufacturing and telecommunications. Her experience ranges from private to public companies with an emphasis on monitoring assignments in multi-jurisdiction and cross-border situations under the Companies Creditor’s Arrangement Act (“CCAA”) and Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.

Ms. Vanderlaan has advised both debtor and creditors in distressed situations, conducted both buy-side and sell-side due diligence investigations and business reviews, analyzed business plans and financial forecasts and prepared financial analysis required to assist creditors in making complex financial decisions.

Recently, Ms. Vanderlaan spent two years working in FTI Consulting’s Houston office, as part of the Energy and Renewables team and gained experience advising lending syndicates and bond holders on deals with total debt in excess of $4 billion.

Prior to that, Ms. Vanderlaan acted as court-appointed monitor of Aveos Fleet Performance in the province of Quebec, which required providing regular “viva voce” evidence before the Court, and she was called as a witness in the case of the Province of Quebec vs. Air Canada in respect of the closure of Aveos Fleet Performance.

Ms. Vanderlaan has also acted as the information officer in the recognition proceedings under Part IV of the CCAA and Chapter 15 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.

Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Ms. Vanderlaan was a vice president in the Corporate Advisory and Restructuring practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers. She has worked in Canada, the U.S., the UK, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and Asia.

Ms. Vanderlaan holds a B.A.S. in Business Administration from Trent University and an M.B.A. from the University of Toronto. She is a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Professional and a Chartered Accountant. Ms. Vanderlaan is a member of the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals; the Turnaround Management Associate, where she served as board member and the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation, where she served on the board of directors and acted as treasurer.

In 2013 she was recognized as the TMA Toronto’s Woman of Restructuring.
