About Bertrand
Bertrand Troiano is a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and is based in New York. He is a member of the Global Mining Advisory practice within the Corporate Finance & Restructuring segment.
Mr. Toiano has strong financial planning, business evaluation, merger and acquisition, operational and cross-functional experience in cyclical and capital intensive industries. His expertise is in merger integration, improving business performance and managing change in complex, turnaround and fast growth environments across multiple geographies.
Mr. Troiano has more than 17 years of experience across large and small companies in base and industrial metals, bulk commodities, packaging and specialty chemicals. He has worked for Rio Tinto, Alcan and Pechiney in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Germany, Hong Kong and China.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Troiano was a Finance Director and Chief Financial Officer at Rio Tinto. From 2013 until 2015, he was seconded from Rio Tinto as CFO of SouthGobi Resources Ltd, a company listed on the Toronto and Hong Kong Stock Exchanges with coal production and commercial operations in Asia. Mr. Troiano led the operational restructuring and refinancing of SouthGobi Resources, working closely with shareholders, investors and creditors from China, Europe and Canada. During his time at Alcan and Rio Tinto, he led value enhancement initiatives resulting in rapid and measurable improvements in operations and product delivery channels and positioning companies to be able to respond to commodity prices volatility and executing low-cost growth.
Mr. Troiano led the operational and commercial restructuring for an aluminum smelting and value added products casting company in Europe between 2004 and 2006. He held senior leadership roles within Rio Tinto in their major industrial expansion projects, technology development and commercialization division. Mr. Troiano was also Manager and VP Business Analysis for Rio Tinto Aluminum, focusing on corporate strategy, business evaluation and transformation, post-Alcan acquisition integration and the defense strategy with regard to BHP Billiton's takeover bid for Rio Tinto in 2008.
Mr. Troiano began his career at Total S.A. in financial analysis and business development with a specialty chemicals business in the United States and Germany. After this, he worked in corporate banking with BNP-Paribas in Tokyo where he was responsible for the European clients’ portfolio, developing structured finance products and significantly enhancing the bank’s profitability in Japan.
Mr. Troiano holds a MSc. in Accounting, Finance and Business/Management from ESCP Europe, an M.B.A. from Columbia University and an M.B.A. from the London Business School.
