An Australian law firm engaged FTI Consulting to classify more than 10,000 documents received from opposing counsel just two weeks before trial, requiring rapid prioritisation by severity and relevance to support finalising case strategy.
Our Impact
- The legal team was able to quickly validate its position in the dispute, using IQ.AI by FTI Technology to achieve a 96% accuracy rate for document categorisation.
- A significant reduction in review time allowed the client’s legal team to prepare for trial under a compressed two-week timeline.
- The legal team achieved case dismissal, with opposing counsel dropping the matter.
Our Role
- Our team of e-discovery and AI experts collaborated with the legal team to build a large language model prompt within IQ.AI, classifying documents into four specific complaint categories with severity ratings, reasoning explanations and supporting excerpts for each classification.
- FTI Technology validated the AI workflow against a manual review sample, confirming a 96% classification accuracy rate before scaling the approach across the full document set of more than 10,000 documents.
- The team identified the 900 most severe and relevant documents for priority legal review by refining prompts within IQ.AI to apply across the full document corpus, surfacing additional contextually relevant materials.
