Cash Flow Crisis Management for a French Telecommunications Company

A PE-backed French telecommunications company was experiencing severe liquidity stress due to the inherent capital expenditures (“CAPEX”) pressures of a highly capital-intensive industry and changes in their financing structure. The client lacked clear visibility into its short-term cash position. Without a reliable forecast into its cash flow and funding gaps, they struggled to make timely and informed decisions to prevent liquidity shortages and manage operational stability. As a result, the client engaged FTI Consulting to produce a 13-week cash-flow model that tracked all revenue sources and cost expenditures in real-time to ultimately improve their decision-making speed and quality for cash-related arbitrations.
Our Impact
- The client used FTI Consulting’s cash flow model to gain insight into its short-term cash position and improve speed and quality of cash-related decisions, notably regarding the arbitration of supplier payments.
- The daily treasury file, two-week cash visibility and 13-week cash-flow model developed by our experts reduced pressure on leadership and provided clarity on cash flows.
- Based on supplier type and relationship, the client established accounts payable rules that allowed management to maintain cash discipline and enabled the company to pave a way towards its strategic direction, including increased revenue-per-CAPEX spending.
Our Role
- FTI Consulting executed a diagnostic of the “as-is” situation, working closely with the CFO and operational stakeholders to assess financial and operational constraints, identify key cash drivers and map existing processes.
- Using the 13-week cash-flow model, FTI Consulting redesigned internal processes to establish clear cash allocation protocols, formalise decision-making frameworks and align finance and operations teams.
- FTI Consulting steered cash flow to support piloting critical financial decisions, such as prioritising and delaying payments where possible and enabling other short-term liquidity optimisation actions to extend the client’s cash runway as far as possible.
