In 2018, global port management company ICTSI South Pacific commenced operating in Papua New Guinea’s (‘PNG’) two major international terminal facilities at Lae and Motukea, which were expected to deliver significant benefits for port users and the PNG economy. FTI Consulting was engaged by the company to study the positive productivity and price outcomes since it assumed terminal operations and the impact of improved productivity and price outcomes for PNG.
Our Impact:
- FTI Consulting’s analysis provided compelling evidence of the benefits achieved since ICTSI South Pacific began operating the terminals at Lae and Motukea in 2018.
- Our independent reports supported ICTSI South Pacific’s corporate communications to enhance its reputation for high performance and contribution to the PNG economy.
- Our findings presented the PNG government with a positive news story in the lead up to the celebration of PNG’s 50th anniversary of independence celebrations.
Our Role:
- FTI Consulting undertook a supply chain study that explained the role that various entities play in the port shipping supply chain and presented the facts regarding ICTSI South Pacific productivity and price performance since it took over terminal operations at Lae and Motukea.
- We used our computable general equilibrium (‘CGE’) modelling capability to estimate the impact of productivity and price improvements on the PNG economy.
- We supported engagement with key stakeholders, including presenting the findings of our independent reports to industry, regulators and government officials.
