Businesses both inside and outside of the healthcare industry play an essential role in supporting the health and prosperity of local populations and their communities. Center experts apply state-of-the-art methods to quantify the economic and community value of health system activity and investments, leveraging both standardized frameworks and tailored analyses that account for system and regional characteristics. More broadly, our cutting-edge modeling and extensive data provide employers and community stakeholders with comprehensive measures of the economic burden of poor health and evidence-based strategies to reduce that burden.
FTI Consulting’s Center for Healthcare Economics & Policy measures the full economic and community benefits of current and planned health system operations and investments using standardized measures and state-of-the-art methodologies. Our customized reports estimate economic impact at local (e.g., metropolitan), state, or regional levels. The Center’s analyses encompass both traditional metrics of the direct, indirect, and induced impacts from construction and ongoing or proposed new operations, as well as supplemental analyses customized to each organization and local economy. Our approach extends to innovative organizations, including investors in new enterprises and facilities, and recognizes the economic value of health systems across many dimensions, including clinical network integration, care coordination, medical tourism, and research programs with spillover impacts throughout the economy.
The Center maintains a robust analytic framework for conducting enhanced population health assessments for companies, communities and collaboratives of civic, business, government, and healthcare leaders. Our team leverages public data sources complemented with extensive proprietary medical claims data to measure the incidence of chronic and acute conditions and model the drivers and impact of medical costs and workforce productivity within communities (e.g., at the city, county, or state level). We use advanced modeling to evaluate economic and health impacts and to measure the return on investment (ROI) to stakeholders and their communities of interventions using new technologies, treatments or programs. The resulting analyses provide essential insight for stakeholders engaged in collaborative efforts and interventions to improve population health. Building on this advanced modeling, our team creates tools and calculators that enable stakeholders to use their own data to generate customized measures of current and expected costs of health conditions across care delivery systems and potential returns from interventions and investments to address them.
