Code.org — an education innovation nonprofit dedicated to providing all students with the opportunity to learn computer science as a driver of equality and development for underprivileged minorities and underserved areas for free as part of their core K-12 education — had become well-recognised in schools across North America, but its brand did not have the resources or organisational support globally to have the same impact in other parts of the world.
Seeing an opportunity to scale its influence globally, Code.org began a pro bono partnership with FTI Consulting’s Dubai-based professionals to help bring its curriculum to countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
FTI Consulting and Code.org identified 11 countries that would benefit from Code.org’s curriculum, including Spain, Italy, Morocco, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Kenya, Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.
Experts developed and proposed five-year plans for countrywide integration of Code.org’s resources and worked alongside each country to measure agreed-upon key performance indicators.
The team raised awareness by leveraging influential figures, public campaigns and key events, and worked to create public and private partnerships to help fund scholarships for training teachers on Code.org’s resources.

To date, FTI Consulting has contributed approximately 8,000 hours to the project, garnered interest from more than 20 countries and issued 15 memorandums of understanding to various government agencies and private companies.

With the UN and the International Criminal Court unable to provide accountability for the February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, a campaign for an alternative mechanism was needed. Our experts helped drive change by providing strategic counsel to a new independent human rights non-government organisation, Justice and Accountability for Ukraine (“JAFUA”), which was established to advocate for a special international tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine and its people.
In collaboration with UNICEF Australia, Parents At Work, an organisation providing employee benefits through work and family education and policy advisory services, launched a report called Bridging the Work and Family Divide: Understanding the Benefits of Family Friendly Workplaces. The report explores the outcomes for organisations, employees and their families when family-friendly workplace policies and practices are both promoted and implemented. Parents At Work partnered with FTI Consulting’s strategic communications experts to help amplify the launch of the report and Parents At Work’s newly launched Family Friendly Workplaces Program (“FFW”), a recognition framework that benchmarks and certifies employers as a “Family Inclusive Workplace.”
With online sexual exploitation of children rising, early detection and prevention of suspicious activities is essential. Monitoring and tracking suspicious financial behaviour might provide insight into sources of child exploitation, so banks and financial institutions (“FIs”) have an opportunity to form compliance programs, which address this directly. In late 2020, FTI Consulting’s investigations and financial crime compliance experts were engaged by a top-tier law firm on behalf of ICMEC to develop a toolkit on how banks and FIs might structure their compliance programs to detect and prevent suspicious activities.
As infection rates rose through the first COVID-19 wave in 2020 and the more pronounced winter crisis at the start of 2021, NHS England needed additional strategic communications support to handle unprecedented volumes of media requests and enable access to hospital sites during the peak of the pandemic. NHS England turned to FTI Consulting to help convey the importance of adhering to public health guidelines and uphold public confidence in the institution.
