Veeva Systems Inc. (“Veeva”) and IQVIA, Inc. (“IQVIA”) both provide data, software and solutions to help life sciences companies market and sell life-saving medicines. In 2018, IQVIA sued Veeva for trade secret misappropriation. Veeva countersued for antitrust monopolization claims.
The dispute carried significant implications not only for the parties involved, but also for the broader life sciences industry, as pharmaceutical companies increasingly depend on integrated data and software solutions. The outcome of the dispute had the potential to reshape how customers could access and use critical healthcare data across competing platforms.
FTI Consulting competition expert Dr. Randal Heeb was retained by Veeva to provide expert testimony on the antitrust claims, specifically regarding market definition and harm to competition.

In August 2025, after eight years of legal dispute, the companies settled all claims and agreed to third-party data and access agreements that allow customers to use IQVIA data in Veeva software, and vice versa — a transformative outcome that will improve clinical and commercial efficiency for customers.
Dr. Heeb submitted three expert reports and provided testimony at the deposition, and his analysis on antitrust liability provided the economic foundation in support of Veeva’s antitrust claims.
The analysis provided statistical evidence that precisely defined the boundaries of the data and software markets in which Veeva and IQVIA compete and the markets in which IQVIA’s alleged anticompetitive conduct occurred.
Dr. Heeb also offered analysis on the trade secret misappropriation claims.
