The global pandemic, the great resignation, the Black Lives Matter Movement, MeToo and the fight by women in Australia for safer streets and workplaces. All these things have created profound changes in our communities.
More than ever, people are standing up and ensuring their voices are heard about issues that matter to them.
Engaging with community and stakeholders to maintain social licence
Australian businesses are responding to these changes. FTI Consulting’s Resilience Barometer found 34% of Australian business leaders are engaging more with activists to effect change within their own company.
Smart business leaders know the best way to maintain their licence to operate is to talk to, and listen to, the people living in the communities in which they operate.
The trick, as always, is knowing how to do so effectively. Community and stakeholder engagement isn’t rocket science, but it can’t be a tick the box exercise either.
Those of you involved with ESG matters will see community and stakeholder engagement as fundamental to the way you do business. It’s now time to make sure the rest of your organisation believes it as well.
